Banks
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John
David Choyce married Mildred Rose Banks, 27
May 1950, in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church,
at Norwalk. Mildred, who was called "Babe"
by her family, was born 26 Sep 1929, at Bridgeport,
Connecticut.
Mildred is the daughter of Mildred Rose (Morrissey)
and Ercel Nathaniel Banks. Her father always went
by the first name of "William."
The Banks family came to America from England
during the American Revolution era and settled
at Westport, Connecticut. Mildred's branch of
the family made Norwalk their permanent home while
she was still a baby. There is a brief "Thumbnail
Sketch of the Banks Family" and a family
chart at the end of this chapter.
(In the summer of 1950, I flew to New England
so that I could take part in the marriage of brother
Jack and Mildred in May; and the marriage of sister
Marjorie to Joe Cannon in July. I returned to
New Orleans immediately afterward.
Mildred and Jack first set up housekeeping at
15 Arch Street in Norwalk, where they were living
when David, Jimmy and Michael were born. Nancy
was born after they built their own home at 4
Visconti Street, Norwalk, where Mildred and Jack
still reside.
Jack retired as Manager of Production/Planning
at Burndy's in 1992, but time weighed heavily
on his hands. He decided to work for his son Michael,
in Michael's roofing business to give him a "leg
up." This was quite a feat of physical exertion
on Jack's part, but he appears to be holding his
own, and Michael's roofing reputation has improved
to the point where he has to turn jobs away.
