This chapter has been named for William Choice born
in 1775, because he was the earliest progenitor
in my research for many years. Later Pat White,
my genealogical correspondent from Loughborough,
Leicestershire, unearthed statistics concerning
William's parents, Ann (Litherland) and Thomas Choice,
but, by that time, I was too entrenched with William
to change. The statistics for the first two Thomases
in this chapter are valid by themselves, but their
relationships to each other, and to the third Thomas
and the first William, remain in question. They
are presented here merely as speculation on my part,
and as a point of departure for future family researchers.
All South African statistics and photographs
were supplied by descendant Frank Charles Harney
Choice of Cape Town, unless otherwise noted. Frank
has maintained correspondence with me on behalf
of his entire Choice family and their Sparrow
cousins.
IGI is an abbreviation for the International
Genealogical Index, compiled worldwide by the
Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints,
more popularly referred to as Mormons. (LDS is
the former IGI designation.)
StC, is an abbreviation for the indexes available
at St. Catherine's House in London, England. The
numbers that follow StC, refer to the Volume and
Page numbers for the birth, death, or marriage,
entered in the Index at St. Catherine's House.
When sending for a document for genealogical
purposes, be sure to include the Volume and Page
(so you won't be charged for research) and be
sure you specify that you want the "long
form."
All statistics from Higham-on-Hill have been
extracted from a typed manuscript of the Higham-on-Hill
Parish Register in my possession, unless otherwise
indicated. My transcript is not complete and many
Choice/Choyce entries may be missing.
If no reference is given for a statistic, then
it is one that my husband Joe, and I collected.
